ANNE STARLING
These prints explore human interaction with the urban and industrial landscape and focus on the neglect that has occurred due to the misuse and exploitation by industrial manufacturers. My relief and drypoint prints examine changes that occur in the environment and present a commentary on society.
Much of my inspiration for Cityscapes comes from personal observations of specific landscapes. Through photographs, sketches and the collection of data I have constructed narratives that provide a glimpse into the lives of individuals who reside on the periphery of suburbia. There is a sense of authentic human attachment to the constructed environment.
This body of work evolved from a series of intricate studies of individuals drawn from my own social surrounds and experiences. The large scale woodblocks are intended to provide a brief insight into the various facets of human nature – how individuals in an environment of social constructs react, respond and communicate.
